This is the place known as “Al-Maghreb Al-Aqsa”, the “Farthest Land of the Setting Sun” On the border of Algeria there is sand - mountains of sand that move freely between countries. But this desert is also sometimes home to inland seas. I was told that when the bluebirds come they bring with them the rain and the rivers and lakes are filled. It must be a spectacular sight. After the rain falls the birds all fall from the sky onto the oasis floor.
